To be honest the Poles aren't the friendliest people on the planet, and they don't appear to be blessed with much in the way of a sense of humour, which I suppose given their past isn't entirely surprising! They do however have a beautiful city in Krakow.  It was once walled, but in 1807 the walls were demolished and in 1820 a circular park called the  "Garden Planty Ring" was constructed in it's place.  Wintertime probably isn't the best time to see it, especially after heavy rain and a lot of snow melt had turned parts of it into a mud plug, but in summer I would imagine it would make a superb way to walk around the city.

The architecture of the place is outstanding, especially around the large square in the old town centre. Here you'll find some brilliant bars and restaurants, as well as buildings that date back many years. There's enough history & culture here to keep even the most devout historian happy for a while, the heritage of this city is deep and diverse.  The following photographs of Krakow show our walks through the city, firstly by night and then by day   which took us a fair few hours to  to complete - we did stop off for lunch though in a restaurant high above, and overlooking the River Vistula.

The Market Arcade in the Cloth Hall Building. This is made up mostly of stalls

The "Leaning tower of Krakow" in daylight........ Yes it really does lean!

The architecture here is stunning

And finally.....The incredible bronze head sculpture on the old square without anyone dicking about with it!
It's called "Eros Bendato"  (Eros Tied) and is by Polish sculptor Igor Mitoraj

So that's it - our trip to Poland.  It's well worth a visit to Krakow, and although the streets are relatively safe to walk at night be warned.......Young Chris went missing after getting chatting to a guy who invited him to a bar for a drink. the daft bugger went with him ......and only discovered it was a gay bar when the guy grabbed him by the bollox and told Chris he was a "very nice boy" and went on to reveal that he was a "Homo".....no shit Sherlock!  One quick exit later he landed back at the hotel no worse for the experience!  Did we laugh........????  Rude not to!
