At the back end of Summer 2004 my lad Ben who'd just turned 18 at the time had a couple
of weeks to kill before he returned to college, so I suggested we give the neighbourhood moggies a break to let their arses
recover after the BB gun episode and we could do a run up to
Scotland. He'd not long passed his bike test and bought himself a
Yamaha XJR 400.
There'd already been a run up to Scotland earlier in the year for him with a couple of his mates, but he was quite keen to go on what would be
his first long run with his Dad, God only knows why! The route we chose was based around the one I did with the
"All England Squirrel Batting Team" in 2003 but missing out Skye. It's a nice run with some great roads and not too far to ride each day for a newby
rider on what was a very underpowered bike for touring.

Once again the big Beemer is loaded
up and ready to go. Ben's XJR can just be seen
in the background, and you'll notice he's not even packed yet!

This
is the road to Oban

Loch Garry (I think! )as seen from the A87. We're now headed for the Kyle of Lochalsh where
we'll pick up the Wester Ross trail to Ullapool

Rest break at the Loch Carron Viewpoint
Somewhere nice 'n Scottish
Loch Carron from
Lochcarron Village
There's a little cafe
in
Lochcarron
Village called
the "Waterside". If you're ever up here it's a cracking wee
place to stop for a bite to eat. Good food great milk shakes and that
view, can't beat it really.
After taking these photos the weather
closed in so we made a dash through Wester Ross for Ullapool where we
stayed in the Riverside
Hotel great place
though it should really be re-named, "The Bit of Grass and a Street
Cornerside Hotel". Very biker friendly and a great brekky
but not a river to be seen anywhere near the side of it. After a
nights stay there we made for Edinburgh in the pouring rain, met my
daughter and took her out for dinner then headed for home next day.
